Alaska Tsunami Warning

January 13th, 2007 by Scott

In the case you all were wondering if we’re okay here in Alaska… We’re fine! It’s Russia I’d like to know more about from this quake.
Figured this was post worthy here at the Alaska Podshow blog. I appreciate the email from Drake and Tera for your concerns - We’re good to go though! Amazing how this show has connected people with Alaska and to me as well.. Love new media!
Anyway here is what the Tsunami Warning Center sent out.

A great earthquake with a moment magnitude of 8.3 occurred at 1114 UTC 15 November 2006 (day 319) and was located near the Kuril Islands (46.577°N, 153.247°E, 26.7km depth - USGS location).

This is the data sent out, you can see the hours expected for a tsunami to arrive.

Great information provided! I’m pleased to see this system working and would feel safe should something happen down the road.

Again - Alaska is okay though as of 12:32 AM January 13th 2007 no reports of damage have been reported from a tsunami. Water levels are not really something we’d notice as they say on the news… More reports on this tomorrow I’m sure!

Be in touch,

Scott
